The Old With The New
Newhall is the oldest of the Santa Clarita communities.
Henry Mayo Newhall purchased the area in 1875 and named his acreage
Newhall Ranch. It's early beginnings involved establishment of a
town-site for the Southern Pacific Railroad, then oil wells were
established in the late 1870's as well. Oil wells are still to be
seen in the area. Much later the Movie Industry used the Santa
Clarita Valley as a movie backdrop and the early Westerns in particular
were filmed here. William S. Hart and Gene Autrey lived in the area.
William S. Hart Park, now run as
a museum is the former home and ranch of the actor. The furnished
1910 ranch house is open to the public for inspection. A Western Walk of
Fame has also been established to honor those linked with Western film
making.
Newhall is closest to the San Fernando Valley of all the
communities within Santa Clarita. Many attractive canyons and
hillsides are home to beautiful estates and the area abounds with native
oaks, the pride of Newhall. Newhall has access to all of Santa
Clarita amenities and home prices are increasing rapidly with it's
proximity to the San Fernando Valley. Newhall also has a
metrolink stop in Old Town
Newhall, which enables commuters to have easy access to San Fernando
Valley and Los Angeles by train.
Newhall has a great assortment of homes to offer for the
home buyer. There is something for everyone's budget. Such variation
is a pleasure to enjoy in a sea of new homes, which by the way, are also
being built in Newhall. Old pioneering days homes exist along
with custom homes and tract homes. However, if you love the nostalgia of
older neighborhoods, this is one section of Santa Clarita to look at.
Happy Valley, in particular, is where to look.
